2012 Counoise

The Wine
Pronounced “Coon-wahz”. Blackcurrant fruit, cherry and baking spice. Counoise is originally from the Southern Rhône valley and is typically blended in Châteaunuf-du-Pape. A delicious wine as a varietal as well offering nice fruit and a hint of pepper.

The Vineyard
75% Counoise – Airfield Ranch – Yakima Valley
25% Petite Sirah – Inland Desert – Yakima Valley

The Winemaking
Mostly whole berry fermentation in open top fermenters. Aged in neutral French oak puncheons (large format barrels). We blended a little Petite Sirah to give the Counoise some tannins. The Petite Sirah also enhanced the mouthfeel of the wine and added some earthy complexity.
